Where Can I Picnic?

This is the beauty of a picnic it is entirely up to you as to the destination.

Public gardens, backyards or the beach are all popular options and in most circumstances if you keep the guest list to 50 or less you won’t require any further permits or insurances just check the local councils website for any conditions. Once decided please advise us during the booking process of your desired location & we will set up as close to this spot as possible (unless you have a permit in a public park it is first in best dressed).

Whilst we will always try to accommodate your desired location there will be times that to achieve your preferred date and time that we may need to suggest one of our more frequented picnic locations to ensure we can service your event. Most popular options are South Yarra (Kings Domain South), Carlton Gardens, Treasury Gardens or Edinburgh Gardens.

Bookings & Cancellations

It is recommended to give yourself at least 2 weeks to secure your desired date & styling. Please keep in mind Spring / Summer is our busiest time and we often book out months in advance.

We require a $100 deposit ($200 deposit for larger events over 30pax) to secure your booking with full payment due 14 days prior to your event. You can cancel your event up to this time with no penalty.


Cancellations within 14 days of your event will forfeit your deposit payment. If you cancel within 48hrs of your event due to reasons other than weather, you will incur a 50% cancellation fee.

We understand the nature of outdoor events and so try to be as flexible as possible in the event the weather is not favorable on your event day. We can offer options to change your events timing so you avoid the worst part of the day, you also have the option to change the location of your event to either an undercover or indoor option, lastly we can offer you a change of date so you event can go ahead at a later stage.

Payments & Security Bond

All payments are due in full 14 days prior to your event, a $100 bond for events up to 30pax & a $200 bond for large group picnics is required. We understand accidents happen and if you simply break a glass or plate please don’t despair we are very understanding, however if your guests are tempted to take any of our picnic items as souvenirs this will result in a replacement fee for the host.
We also expect our settings to be treated with respect and children supervised with messy food, if excessive cleaning is required this will be charged to the event host with partial or full bond kept.

Please also note once we have agreed upon a commencement time for your picnic we are handing over responsibility for our belongings for the duration, if you run late to an event this responsibility then becomes our staffs to await your arrival which may incur further fees in staff costs as they can’t leave until you arrive.

Picnic Catering

Please note Melbourne Picnic Collective offers event styling only. If you are looking for catering for your event we can recommend you to several local caterers who are able to setup onsite for your event with us.

Please note this option will often require you to hire tables to accommodate catering setup and you will need to consider rubbish removal at the end of your event as most caterers wont return to packdown.

Delivery & Set Up?

Our pricing is for all Melbourne Metro events(within 10kms) of Melbourne City, an additional delivery & collection fee will apply for events outside fo this radius.

We will generally be onsite 30mins - 1hr prior to your event setting up and will require you to be at your picnic at the event commencement time to ensure the safety of our products, it is your responsibility to call and advise if you are running late as late fees may apply.

Picnic Hire items, free delivery within 10km radius of Melbourne CBD for orders over $500. Delivery fees apply for orders under $500 or outside the 10km radius.

How Long is a Standard Picnic?

Our picnics are set up for a duration of 4hrs for group picnics & 2.5hrs for duo picnics, if you require a longer setup please discuss at time of booking as to options available to you.

Suggested Picnic Timings:
Brunch: 10am - 2pm
Lunch: 1pm - 5pm
Twilight: 4/5pm - 8pm

Twilight & Night Picnics

As the days get longer and the nights balmy a picnic event is the perfect way to take advantage of our beautiful climate. We are able to offer the option of twilight picnics in public spaces from November - March with a pack down time of 8pm at the latest in peak of summer, at all other times of year sunset is when we pack down for the safety of our staff.

If you are hosting an event at home or at a secure location we can arrange for an overnight hire and pack down in the morning for an extra fee.
